With the Oscars on the horizon, I’ve been fully leaning into my cinephile side this month. Given that most of my recent queue has been filled with more “serious” films, however, I was delighted to find out via Instagram that Reese Witherspoon has a new comedy coming out this week. Even better, Will Ferrell is the co-star, meaning it’s guaranteed to make me laugh. 

After immediately adding You’re Cordially Invited to my watch-list, I took a beat to admire Witherspoon’s outfit, as well. In the promotional video, the actress sported a fitted turtleneck sweater and knee-high boots, both pieces I consider to be winter staples. Turtlenecks provide the perfect base for layering, while tall boots have an instant leg-lengthening effect. Plus, there are tons of affordable versions of both styles on the market. In fact, I was able to find six under-$70 lookalikes on Amazon.

While chunky, oversized sweaters are typically my forte, Witherspoon’s ensemble made me realize I need to add fitted styles into my collection, too. In my opinion, black turtlenecks are like the white T-shirts of winter; you can pair them with virtually anything. This ribbed turtleneck, for example, is ideal for layering under a leather jacket, fur coat, or warm puffer. 

Although I’ve never been a skirt person, Witherspoon’s outfit convinced me that’s because I’ve never had the right shoes for them. The sheer tights, mini skirt, and knee-high boots combo displayed by the star is one that I definitely plan on recreating.
