The reign of the bob continues.
Reese Witherspoon is celebrating the premiere of her film, You’re Cordially Invited, with a new haircut that is about to take spring by storm: the lob. Not quite as short as a bob, the lob is a big chop as far as Witherspoon is concerned, who typically sports long, flowing locks that have been standard to her beauty look for decades.
Tuesday night, of course, was a different story. Stepping out in a skater skirt and an early aughts-coded peplum jacket, the actor officially joined a slew of other celebrities—such as Sophie Turner and Victoria Beckham—who have ditched their long hair for the shorter ‘do.
This isn’t the first time Witherspoon has gone for the big chop, of course. In January 2020, just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the actor stepped out at the SAG Awards with an even shorter, blunt-edged bob. She sported a short bob during her Big Little Lies era, as well as for her Academy Awards debut in 2002. Suffice to say, Witherspoon isn’t afraid to experiment with her look, especially considering that hair length is, by nature, always in flux.
You’re Cordially Invited is Witherspoon’s first comedy film since 2023, when she starred in Your Place or Mine opposite Ashton Kutcher. This time around, she plays Margot, a sister of a bride whose wedding venue gets double booked. Will Ferrell plays the father of the other bride. (Spoiler alert: both events quickly descend into chaos.)
Speaking on the red carpet of the film’s UK premiere earlier in the week, Witherspoon said that You’re Cordially Invited felt like “a classic 1930s movie.” Apparently, filming the movie was a breeze: “I went home that day and thought, ‘That was one of the best scenes I’ve ever done in my whole life.'”
