In December, Vogue Runway embarked on a pretty massive endeavor, taking stock of all the most important fashion moments from the year 2000 to the present day. It was only natural to start thinking about—and ranking—the most memorable runway shows of the last 25 years, but the task seemed insurmountable. So we did the logical thing, we let our readers pick the shows they deemed the most influential. In today’s episode, Nicole Phelps is joined by a few Vogue editors who have been witness to (almost) all of it—Global Head of Fashion Network Virginia Smith, Creative Editorial Director Mark Guiducci, and Senior Archive Editor Laird Borelli-Persson—who together discuss the readers’ selections in chronological order.
Hussein Chalayan’s legendary fall 2000 show kicks things off. Also on the list: Alexander McQueen’s spring 2010 show “Plato’s Atlantis”, which would turn out to be the designer’s last, and Raf Simons’s fall 2012 haute couture debut at Dior. But there were some surprising choices—and omissions—as well! You’ll have to listen to find out who made the readers’ favorites (though there were a few our intrepid editors weren’t able to discuss in this episode) and tune back in on Thursday when Nicole, Virginia, Mark, and Laird discuss their favorite shows of the 21st century (so far).
