She's mastered flyaway-free slickbacks and sleek-yet-voluminous waves.
If we were to place bets on which celebrity is most often spotted on style mood boards, Bella Hadid would be an automatic frontrunner. It’s not just the supermodel and Ôrabella founder’s Western-inspired looks that we admire, though. It’s also her signature chocolate-brown hair color, her sleek slickbacks with not a single hair out of place, and her ability to pull off any style of bangs, from blunt and rounded to long and piece-y.

To learn how to recreate some of Hadid’s most iconic hair moments, we turned to her colorist, Jenna Perry, and celebrity hairstylist and makeup artist Ashley Gomila. Keep reading to discover how you can emulate Hadid’s sleek updos and glossy brunette color.
Dark and Sleek
“I like to think of this color as Bella’s supermodel, super-vixen signature,” says Perry, who likes to use a “low-alkaline, demi-permanent color”—specifically the R+ Color Hypermatic from R + Co—to maintain the health and shine of Hadid’s hair. “Low-alkaline color is less of a disruption to the cuticle and helps the hair retain moisture, resulting in soft and shinier strands,” she says.
To get this sleek, straight look, Gomila adds it’s all in the blowout: Use a paddle brush for the smoothest results, then flat-iron hair in small sections before applying a shine-enhancing serum or spray.
Old Hollywood Waves
Hadid’s Old Hollywood waves looked ethereal paired with a sheer nude gown. To achieve this look, Gomila recommends prepping the hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. “Using volumizing products is crucial for adding lift and hold throughout the hair,” she explains.
Next, curl hair away from the face using a one-and-a-half- or two-inch curling iron, securing each curl with a small clip. Spray the curls with a medium-hold hairspray. “Once all the curls are set, wait about one minute before removing the clips, starting with the back and sides,” says Gomila. “Gently brush through the curls, using a little more hairspray to finish and perfect the look.”
Glossy Slickback
Hadid’s slicked-back updo allowed her plunging neckline and statement earrings to take center stage. For a similarly sleek style with zero flyaways, follow Gomila’s hack: “Lightly spray the back of a comb (the side without teeth) with hairspray, then gently press the flyaways down using the dull side of the comb. Hold the comb in place until the spray dries for a smooth, polished finish. This technique provides control without overloading the hair with product.”
Bouncy Bob
Hadid went for a voluminous bob to show off the backless silhouette and bodycon fit of her black bodysuit. To recreate this style, Gomila recommends prepping the hair with a volume-enhancing shampoo and conditioner, then applying a “lightweight root-lift spray or mousse.” Blow-dry the hair with a round brush to add body at the roots.
“For extra movement, lightly curl the ends with a one-and-a-quarter-inch curling iron,” Gomila says. “Finish with a medium-hold hairspray to lock in the style and add a touch of shine serum for polish.”
Honey Blonde Ponytail
In a rare departure from her signature brunette, Hadid experimented with a warm blonde color. “We did this shade of honey blonde on Bella and at this point in time, it was a bit grown out,” says Perry. “It looked really fun with her high ponytail and her look.”
To keep Hadid’s hair healthy, Perry uses Olaplex in every color transformation. “I use the Olaplex No. 1 in my R+Co R+COLOR, and directly after in the shampoo bowl with Olaplex No. 2 directly on top. Using Olaplex makes me feel way more confident when I’m doing a transformation—it’s my security blanket.”
Braided Half-Up, Half-Down
Hadid almost always goes for slicked-back or sleek, straightened looks. Here, however, her hair’s texture and flyaways were used to soften her black leather ensemble. Tiny micro-braids framed her face, while plenty of volume at the crown flowed seamlessly into a thick, undone plait.
Swooping Side Part
A swooping ringlet was the finishing touch to Hadid’s deep side part and half-up, half-down hairstyle. “To achieve this level of hold and shine, I recommend a combination of a strong-hold gel and a shine-enhancing wax,” says Gomila.
Apply the gel to the areas that need the most control, like the hairline and roots, then focus the wax where you want extra shine and definition, such as on the mid-lengths and ends.
Full, Blunt Bangs
If you’re not ready to commit to a set of blunt bangs like Hadid, look to Gomila’s tips for styling clip-ins. “Start by choosing clip-in bangs that closely match your hair color and texture,” she says. “If necessary, trim them slightly to suit your face shape and desired length. Always cut conservatively and on dry hair for accuracy.”
Blow-dry your hair to match the texture of the bangs, then attach them closely to your hairline, curving the ends inward with a flat-iron on a low heat setting. “To hide the clips, tease the hair at the crown for added volume, or use a headband or accessory to disguise the attachment point,” Gomila adds. “Finish by applying a light mist of texturing spray or dry shampoo to reduce shine and enhance a natural appearance.”
Try not to go overboard on products, she cautions, as the buildup could make the bangs appear more unnatural. Use a tinted dry shampoo instead of a transparent option for a seamless blend.
Natural Waves
While walking around New York this summer, Hadid was spotted wearing her hair in these effortless, relaxed waves. “To enhance a natural wave like Bella’s, I recommend using products that define curls while adding moisture,” Gomila says.
“For styling, apply curl cream evenly to damp hair, focusing on mid-lengths and ends. Scrunch the hair gently with your hands to encourage the wave pattern, then let it air-dry or use a diffuser on a low heat setting for added volume.” Finish with a blast of texture spray or hairspray to ensure the waves last all day.
Intricate Updo
This style may appear to be a traditional updo, but take a closer look at the details: Hadid’s sideburns and hairline are slicked down for an edgy, angular look, while thick locks of pin-straight, bluntly-cut hair swing from her chignon.
The chignon is made up of multiple twists that resemble a cluster of rosettes, further pushing the style’s sophisticated yet unexpected effect.
Long Bangs
Long, piece-y bangs are an elegant complement to Hadid’s oval-shaped face, plus they offer endless styling possibilities. Here, she wore them with a slightly off-center middle part, but you could easily curl the ends under for a shorter look or part them to the side. According to Perry, the hair’s auburn glow came from a “soft highlight.”
Voluminous Curls
Loose curls and volume at the crown give Hadid a 1960s bombshell look. When trying to recreate this level of volume, Gomila stresses the most important step is to use a powerful volumizing mousse combined with a root-boosting powder.
Apply the mousse throughout damp hair, then sprinkle the powder directly on the roots for added lift. “Flip your head upside-down while blow-drying to encourage maximum lift at the roots. Once dry, you can gently tease the roots for extra fullness and finish with a light hairspray to hold the volume in place.”
