Somehow Challengers, Dune: Part Two, Wicked, Furiosa, It Ends With Us, Joker: Folie à Deux, and Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice were all released in 2024. This year was jam-packed with method dressing, the phenomenon of actors coordinating their fashion to a character or film. While it’s really only been in full swing for two years now, method dressing has grown exponentially, covering the red carpet in otherworldly looks, tennis homages, dystopian biker-chic, and—of course—lots of pink and green.
With plenty of films on the calendar for 2025, we’re sure to see plenty of method dressing ahead. I know what you’re thinking: Does any press tour really necessitate method dressing? No, but that won’t stop anyone from trying! Below, we’ve compiled a list of films that we think will beget some on-theme press looks in 2025. Watch this space…
Wicked Part 2
Let’s just get the obvious one out of the way, shall we? Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande spent the majority of 2024 in their film-related color palettes and we imagine they’ll spend much of 2025 that way, too. That begs the question: Will they get to take a break in between or are they just going to commit to two full years in?
A Simple Favor 2
It’s not that A Simple Favor is conducive to method dressing, but rather the actor at its center. Blake Lively promoted the 2018 film by dressing in a swathe of suits, just like her character Emily. Given Lively’s method dressing record, we can only imagine she’ll break out the suiting once again. May we suggest something from Saint Laurent’s fabulous spring 2025 collection?
Snow White
This one seems very Wicked-esque in that the leads, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, have distinct lanes to occupy. Zegler can lean into pastoral fashions and Snow White’s signature primary color palette while Gadot can channel the Big Bad with lots of black, witchy styles. They can also take a page from Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning who already did this exact press tour in 2014.
Frankenstein
If Nosferatu has taught us anything, it’s the valuable role of restraint. With fashionable stars like Mia Goth, Jacob Elordi, and Oscar Isaac leading the way, we have high hopes for some 18th century glamour in our future.
Ballerina
This film from the John Wick Cinematic Universe stars Ana de Armas as a ballerina-assassin. We can only imagine she’ll embrace the hard-meets-soft aesthetic on the red carpet. Perhaps a tulle-heavy Molly Goddard or Simone Rocha with some Miu Miu biker boots? Just riffing here!
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy
Hear me out! This one might not be top of mind for stylists, but what an opportunity for Renée Zellweger to embrace the Frazzled Englishwoman once again.
