“We come to this place for magic. We come to AMC theaters to laugh, to cry, to care.” When Nicole Kidman delivered those words in her now-iconic AMC ad back in September 2021, it became a viral phenomenon—we simply couldn’t get enough of seeing Kidman turn a commercial into an emotional, Oscar-worthy performance. “Somehow, heartbreak feels good in a place like this,” the actor says, while sitting in an empty theater wearing a glitzy gray Michael Kors pinstriped jumpsuit. It’s such a famous look that it was later auctioned off at Sotheby’s, and turned into countless Halloween costumes, too.
Just when you thought Kidman was done with her AMC chapter, however, the actor has revived her famous fashion look this week. Last night, Kidman made an appearance on the Stephen Colbert show in New York City to promote her new film, Babygirl—her pinstriped suit a playful nod back to the one she wore in her AMC ad. It wasn’t the exact same Michael Kors style, but the black and white pinstriped two-piece echoed the original silhouette and striping. Kidman styled the suit with a Babygirl-themed tee (we love a star who wears their own merch!) and a huge Balenciaga tote bag for an elevated feel.
Perhaps this stylish choice is a hint of things to come: Fans have long been demanding a sequel to the commercial, and maybe this is Kidman’s way of saying, coming soon. We hope so—there’s just something healing about hearing her proclaim, “We go somewhere we've never been before; not just entertained, but somehow reborn. Together.”
