The multi-hyphenate cool girl is the face of the ‘90s revival.
From her goth-bombshell style to her rock-star relationship to her role as one of Charli XCX’s Brat muses, Gabbriette is the Internet It girl of the moment. The 27-year-old model, musician, and chef has crafted an unmistakable look, with her striking makeup sparking the fascination and obsession of her nearly one million followers.
“Gabbriette’s look is ‘90s-meets-today—and she commits,” says Romero Jennings, MAC’s director of makeup artistry. “Everyone can wear makeup, but you own it; it’s invincible. You look like a super person.”
Channeling a Barb Wire-era Pam Anderson, Gabbriette’s aesthetic hinges on the razor-thin brows, dusty matte eyeshadow, and cool beige lips the ‘90s gave rise to. And the way Jennings sees it, her makeup truly encompasses her ineffable cool. “If you saw her in the street, you would do a double take like, ‘Who is that? She commits to her look, and it’s why so many people are drawn to her. It’s authentic. She owns it. She lives this life.”
At the forefront of a ‘90s redux that simply isn’t going anywhere, Gabbriette–and the fixation on her makeup (her limited-edition MAC lip kit instantly sold out over the summer)–isn’t going anywhere. As Jennings puts it, “I feel like she’s having more than a moment; it’s a movement.” So, let’s dive into her makeup signatures and what makes them so iconoclastic.
Velvety Skin
In the ‘90s, it was all about matte, flawless-finish skin. Gabbriette channels this vibe but with a more modern, finger-blended-concealer vibe. “It’s more velvet than matte where you’re seeing skin coming through; you’re seeing realism,” explains Jennings. “It looks like real skin. She's not covering everything up.” He emphasizes that Gabbriette is even known to enhance her under-eye circles rather than concealing them.
Barely-There Brows
“Gabbriette’s got these incredible vintage ’90s brows, which everybody wants to do,” says Jennings. “So we're all backstage at shows blocking brows out to try to create that. Her pin-thin, softly filled-in brows aren’t just a throwback to the ‘90s. They’re a vehicle for next-level makeup expression. “As a makeup artist and creator, what I love about seeing a skinny brow or a brow that’s barely there is that it gives you more room to play and create,” says Jennings. “It means that you can really be as expressive as you want with the eye.”
Grunge Gaze
“With the brows, it’s very ‘90s supermodel,” says Jennings of Gabbriette’s signature soft matte shadows in browns, ashy grays, and moody plum. For a grittier grunge vibe, the model coats her lashes in mascara and blends kohl eyeliner along the waterline for intensity–the smudgier, the better. “It can be a bit messy,” says Jennings. “It’s that imperfect perfection she’s always playing with.”
Contoured Lips
Gabbriette leans into the quintessential “‘90s contoured lip,” which MAC put on the map with lip pencils like brown-toned pink Spice and warm brown Cork, says Jennings. “It looks amazing with a see-through gloss or a lighter lipstick,” he says. “It’s very Pam Anderson–that skinny brow with that glossy, almost nude lip, but contoured.” Beyond her sold-out MAC lip kit collab, a quick search of “Gabbriette lip” on TikTok confirms creators can’t get enough.
