The 12-year-old understood the Disney princess assignment.
It was a glamorous mother-daughter night out for Beyoncé and Blue Ivy at the December 9 Los Angeles premiere of Mufasa: The Lion King. For the event, the lookalike mom-and-daughter duo—and co-stars—both embraced a gilded dress code for the evening while emphasizing that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Making her solo red carpet entrance first, Blue Ivy walked out in a custom golden ball gown from Christian Siriano that seemed lit from within, thanks to its bright reflective sheen and metallic glossy fabric with subtle black undertones. To celebrate her silver screen debut, the 12-year-old fittingly leaned into her inner Disney princess with a Cinderella-esque silhouette including a sweetheart neckline, and a twisted bodice that cinched her waist before billowing out into a full skirt.
To complement her golden gown, Blue Ivy, who voices Kiara in the film, chose an equally as glamorous beauty look. She styled her dark hair in curled braids, and added a pop of color to her look with a glossy red lip, a sunset-hued eyeshadow, and black eyeliner.
Beyoncé, who gave her mini-me a few moments to shine alone before joining her on the red carpet, revealed that she’d coordinated their premiere looks beforehand. She also wore a strapless gown, a mirrored Balmain number with a body-con fit, a thigh-high slit, and a plunging neckline–a subtle version of method dressing. The Bodyguard singer’s gown was fittingly from designer Olivier Rousteing’s Lion King collection celebrating the film’s 30th anniversary.
The shimmering gold disks on Beyoncé’s dress were offset by black, leaning into the same color scape and undertones as her daughter’s look. However, while her Blue Ivy went for more of a classic, Old Hollywood glamour aesthetic for the evening, the “Cowboy Carter” singer leaned into a more subdued beat. She wore a shimmery champagne eyeshadow and a nude lip with voluminous bombshell blonde curls.
It’s not the first time the Carter women have pulled off a matching red carpet moment, as they memorably pulled up to the 2019 The Lion King premiere in matching crystal-studded black jackets paired with sparkly polka-dotted sheer tulle skirts. Based on their latest appearance, it looks like the Beyhive is in for many more coordinated mother-daughter moments as they promote their new movie.
