The color of the summer just got a cold-weather makeover.
Neon green was the color of the summer this year—thanks to Charli XCX’s Brat album that was released in early June. Ubiquitously known as Brat green, the chartreuse shade took over the cultural zeitgeist—even infiltrating Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. But now that summer’s over and winter has officially arrived, Charli has debuted a new, cold-weather version of the in-your-face hue.
On Saturday, the pop star attended Variety's 2024 Hitmaker's Brunch at NYA WEST in Los Angeles, where she took home the Hitmaker of the Year Award while wearing winter's take on the Brat green trend. On the red carpet, she freed the nipple in a completely sheer dress in a subdued olive green color that featured a backless silhouette and a halter neckline.
Allowing the jaw-dropping gown speak for itself, Charli accessorized minimally, adding just a pair of matching pointy-toe heels to her look. Her glam was equally low-key, with barely-there makeup and her dark hair styled in relaxed waves with a middle part.
During an interview with Vogue Singapore, the British singer discussed the origins of Brat green, noting that she specifically chose an “offensive, off-trend shade of green” for her album cover “to trigger the idea of something being wrong.”
She continued, "I’d like for us to question our expectations of pop culture—why are some things considered good and acceptable, and some things deemed bad? I’m interested in the narratives behind that and I want to provoke people. I’m not doing things to be nice.”
