Business with a party twist.
Cate Blanchett never fails to pull together a chic, sophisticated look that pairs her penchant for menswear with a fun little twist. And while attending last night’s London premiere of Vogue: Inventing the Runway at Lightroom in London’s Kings Cross, the actress did just that.
Blanchett opted for a brown tailored tweed suit for the occasion. However, she added a few daring touches to the look. She wore the single-breasted blazer open, revealing what appeared to be a brown knit scarf that lined the lapel of the blazer. She also wore a black bodysuit with a v-neck that plunged practically to her belly button.
She completed the look with a pair of black stilettos and a pair of chunky gold chain necklaces. She wore her hair swept back in a low bun.
Vogue: Inventing the Runway is a 50-minute immersive exhibition that delves into the history of Vogue’s runway show. Blanchett narrates the show. The actress previously narrated David Hockney: Bigger & Closer (not smaller & further away), another immersive show at Lightroom. As she told Vogue last night, “A year or so ago, Anna [Wintour] and Mark [Guiducci] came to see our David Hockney show before it had opened to the public, and as a result of that this collaboration happened. It’s been an exciting and very creative experience for us to join with them in exploring a world that we knew very little about.”
Blanchett was joined at last night's premiere by Wintour, Guiducci Jonathan JW Anderson, Haider Ackermann, and Sir Nicholas Hytner.
Blanchett has been experimenting with combining her love of menswear-inspired silhouettes with party-wear twists for quite some time. Last month, for instance, she wore a plunging blazer with no top underneath to BFI London Film Festival and back in September, she wore a classic black suit with a bizarre peplum waist covered in spoons.
