She's like a walking art exhibition.
In an era where it feels like everyone is making all of the same beauty choices, it’s a refreshing reprieve when someone embraces their unique points of view. And few stars are doing just that better than Julia Fox.
“As a hairstylist, I love someone who is open to pushing boundaries when it comes to beauty, this is why I am drawn to editorial looks, specifically Julia’s,” says celebrity hairstylist Arianna Chaylene Blean. “Collaboration between a stylist and their client is key, and you can tell that [each] look that she does has purpose and a true direction.”
This direction typically comes from references and is built on years of trust between Fox and her hairstylist, John Novotny. “We've developed a really trusting relationship to the point where we can sort of read each other's minds when it comes to hair,” Novotny says. “When we glam, she will usually give me a couple ideas of the direction she wants to go that day, and even with that, we’re constantly sending each other reference imagery from movies and fashion, and we always like to put our own spin on it.”
The duo has currently been heavily inspired by the Victorian era, (Fox’s Flaunt Magazine cover is one of the latest examples of the era’s influence over her beauty direction), but Novotny says their favorite hairstyles on her are the more unconventional ones. “My favorite hair is when there’s something a little off about [the hairstyle],” they say. “I think that’s completely in line with Julia’s style for sure. Her looks are never too perfect.”
Fox’s hairstyles are usually helping to tell a story and for that reason, whether for a photoshoot or in a street-style look, so it’s not uncommon for the star to switch up her looks fairly often. “We love to play with wigs and extensions,” Novotny says. “Wigs are my favorite thing to do because it limits how long she has to sit in the glam chair and I can prep them beforehand, plus it’s really great for shoots when we want to tackle multiple looks in a short time frame. Plus it helps to limit the amount of heat used on her natural hair.”

Julia Fox's Voluminous Superhero-Inspired Hairstyle
One of Fox’s best hairstyles happens to also be one of Novotny’s favorites. “It was this superhero look we did for [her] show ‘Omg Fashun’ in April 2024,” they said. “It was a long black wig and I blew it out so it had a lot of height, all teased and away from her face. We also did a swirl in the center of her forehead to give it an element of fantasy. It was sort of a nod to Priscilla Presley—theatrical, campy, and beautiful. Also she looks amazing with dark hair.”
Julia Fox's Pin-Curl Mullet
That same month, Fox was spotted in a pin-curled-mullet, which is an incredibly editorial take on the ‘80s hairstyle that’s making a comeback. She paired the look with bleached brows, blue eyeshadow, and a pink lip color.
Julia Fox's Slicked-Back Bob Hairstyle
In November 2023, Fox was photographed in what is probably one of her more wearable hairstyles, but it is still extremely edgy for most people. The slicked-back bob ended right by her jawline and was paired with a smoky eye and black leather dress for a full grunge moment. If you want to recreate the look, opt for a wig first before fully committing.
Julia Fox's Coquette Pigtails Hairstyle
In a street style moment that looked like it had the ability to stop traffic back in September 2023, Fox was spotted with an ombré hair color that was styled into pigtails and adorned by bows. It was the perfect take on the coquette trend that was spotted all over runways that year.
Julia Fox's "Wet" Hairstyle
In May 2023, Fox was spotted in Paris wearing a dress that had a “wet effect.” To really bring the look home, she created the same effect with her hair with a style that looked straight out of the shower.
Julia Fox's Red Mullet and Bangs Hairstyle
It seems that Fox has been a long-time fan of mullets, as she was spotted in a shorter version back in May 2023. The style featured dramatically curled ends, a side-swept band, and was a bold cherry-red color.
Julia Fox's Gray-Streaked Hairstyle
In February 2023, Fox put a new spotlight on gray hair after being spotted with streaks of the color throughout the entire front of her head. The color was concentrated at the top of her strands, allowing her natural shade to shine near the ends.
Julia Fox's Curled Updo Hairstyle
On “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” Fox sported a sweeping updo that consisted of curls and highlights, alongside a shaggy fur coat and black ombré French tips.
Julia Fox's Platinum "Wet" Hairstyle
In March 2024, Fox was spotted once again in Paris wearing a wet- looking hairstyle. This version, however, was a gorgeous platinum blond that was adorned with a scorpion crown.
Julia Fox's "Velveeta" Pin-Up Curls
Also in March, Fox wore a yellow pin-up curl hairstyle, which Chaylene Blean says is one of her favorite looks from the star. “It’s hard to pick just one when [she] has so many to choose from,” she says. “Still, the Velveeta-yellow wig for one of her ‘OMG Fashun’ episodes is what I consider hair inspiration.”
Julia Fox's Victorian Mullet
Fox wore a curled version of the classic mullet to the Wiederhoeft fashion show during February Fashion Week in 2024. Her hair was dyed a platinum blond, and the look fell perfectly in line with the brand’s whimsical, yet futuristic aesthetic.
Julia Fox's Pamela Anderson-Inspired Updo
For a taping of “Saturday Night Live” in March 2024, Fox wore a gorgeous Pamela Anderson-inspired updo. She opted for a silver-y platinum color and neutral makeup for yet another editorial beauty moment.
Julia Fox's Finger-Waves Hairstyle
Finger waves were the star of the show for one of Fox’s street style photos back in February 2024. The star was back to her signature cherry-red hair color and opted for ethereal angel eyes makeup to complete the look.
Julia Fox's Octopus Haircut
Octopus haircuts are one of the more edgy hairstyles to trend over the last few years and of course, Julia Fox was spotted in her own version in August 2024. She channeled an “office siren” and wore an oversized blazer along with hot pants, plus a silver briefcase to really bring the look home.
Julia Fox's Y2K Bun Hairstyle
It’s hard to to see anything other than the stunning makeup that Fox is wearing in this photo but do take a moment to look at the masterpiece that is her hair. The socialite slicked her hair into a bun and made the left-out pieces spiky to channel the grungy Y2k hairstyle.
