The first-time Oscar winner describes her look as "glittering, graceful, and elegant."
Da’Vine Joy Randolph was a vision in baby blue as she accepted the Oscar for best supporting actress for her role in The Holdovers. To allow her sequined Louis Vuitton gown to shine, Randolph kept her beauty look neutral — but, it still delivered on the glamour front. It’s a look Randolph describes as “glittering, graceful, and elegant.”
"We were channeling a modern Mae West from head to toe," says Randolph. "She exuded a playful sexiness that was simultaneously the epitome of Hollywood glamour in her era."
To start, Randolph’s makeup artist Sheika Daley prepped her skin a thin layer of the Lancôme Absolue The Serum, topped with the Lancôme Absolue Soft Cream Moisturizer for a healthy glow. She also sculpted her her face using a Fae Gym trio — the EMS tool Facegym Pro along with the Weighted Face Ball, and Multi-Sculpt for a gentle massage. Together, these tools “reduced puffiness” and “created natural definition on the cheekbones and jawline,” says Daley.
With her canvas perfected, Daley, Lancôme’s global makeup artist, got into the makeup. She blended the Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H Full Coverage Foundation in the shades 550C. The foundation “has been my favorite product for award season,” says Daley, because it lasts all night long. “I’ve seen pictures of her at afterparties and she still just looks flawless.”
Daley then highlighted with the Teint Idole Ultra Wear All Over Full Coverage Concealer in the shade 470 Suede Cool and blended it with the Beauty Blender Original Pink Makeup Sponge. Then, she set her complexion with the Lancôme Dual Finish Foundation Powder the shade 510 Suede Cool before adding a subtle flush of color with the Blush Subtil in the shade 473 Keep Calm & Blush.
The crux of the look is Randolph’s dramatic eye. “The big element for todays look is her eyeliner,” says Daley. “She loves the dramatic look of the shape for her eyes, so we really wanted to play that up. So we used the Idôle Liner to create a beautiful graphic line.” She also added the Lancôme Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Smokey Chic for a bit of subtle sparkle and added on a fluffy strip of Elora Lane 3D Mink Lashes in the Michelle style. She then layered on the Lancôme Monsieur Big Mascara in Black to add volume to the top and bottom lashes. To keep the look soft, she very lightly filled in and defined the brows with the Brow Define Pencil in 06 Brown.
To finish the look, Daley applied a single stroke of the Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Intimatte Soft Matte Lipstick in 440 Got Me Blushing to the center of Randolph’s pout and it blended outward before toping off with the Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss in Melon Rewind.
For Randolph’s gorgeous blonde look, her hairstylist Tai Simon focused on brightening and body. “We wanted to embody the fullness and joyfulness of Da’Vine’s award season and end it with a voluminous blonde moment,” says Simon.
To achieve the bright look, Simon bleached the hair and revitalized it with Joico’s Defy Damage Protective Shampoo, Conditioner, and Masque “to keep bonds in tact” and add an “extra boost of protection,” he says. Then, he applied the brand’s Defy Damage Protective Shield and K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Lock Multi-Perfector Spray before drying.
To get her bouncy old Hollywood curls, Simon used the T3 Interchangeable Barrel Curler to create curls and then set them with pins and a spritz of Joico’s Power Spray.
With her classic and high-glam look, Randolph looked every bit the star she is. "For so long, I've always wanted to be different," Randolph said during her acceptance speech. "And now, I realize I just need to be myself."
