If you’ve ever watched The Simple Life, then you know that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are no stranger to coordinating outfits (in addition to being the queens of Y2K style). But at last night’s 2024 CFDA Awards in New York City, the two longtime friends switched things up—by linking up in polar-opposite looks instead. Hilton embraced romance with a beaded rosette frock by Oscar de la Renta, while Richie opted for a vampier leather gown by Proenza Schouler, complete with an open back. “I loved how our outfits looked together,” Hilton tells Vogue. “The black leather with red roses was very chic and cool.”
For fans of both Hilton and Richie, seeing the two longtime friends together at the same event was a total delight—especially because they recently filmed a new reunion series for Peacock together, conjuring much excitement. We are so back. “I couldn’t be happier to be [at the CFDAs] with Nicole,” says Hilton. “We’ve shared so many iconic fashion moments over the years, and it’s so fun to reflect on how our style has grown. We always have the best time together wherever we are.” Richie added, “Attending the CFDAs is always so special, but doing it with you friend takes the night to a whole other level of fun. We laughed the whole night.”
Though they enjoyed the evening together, both stars brought a distinctive fashion energy to the annual affair. Richie wanted an edgier leather look that was timeless and streamlined. “I have been wearing and loving Proenza for over 20 years,” says Richie. “This leather dress was perfect for the night. I loved the way it looked and loved the way I felt.”
For Hilton, meanwhile, she looked to Oscar de la Rents for a sweet and feminine red carpet frock. “It’s all about romance and elegance with those beautiful, beaded roses,” Hilton says. “I wanted to feel timeless and feminine, and this dress captures that perfectly. It feels like a new era in my life, and I wanted to reflect that beauty and confidence.” The star adds that her favorite details were the intricate fabrication of the roses. “They’re so romantic, and I love how they catch the light,” says Hilton. “The beading is so detailed; It’s like wearing art.”
The duo clearly have their own sartorial flavors going on—but the two looks were even better combined. Their favorite parts of the night, meanwhile? For Hilton, it was seeing Richie presenting Raul Lopez with his special Accessory Designer of the Year award. “He is so talented and kind, and it was touching to see how emotional he was winning the award,” says Hilton. “[I also] loved running into Marc Jacobs and his husband Char backstage and catching up.”
As for what you can expect from that new reunion series? Hilton says don’t go calling it a The Simple Life remake. “We are bringing so much fun to Peacock with this one,” teases Hilton. “It’s like catching up with your best friends. Expect laughs, fashion, and of course, a little bit of that iconic chaos we’re known for! It’s going to be epic! Sanasa, sanasa!”
