Plus, the actress behind Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto shares what to expect from the show's new season.
For Abby Elliott, getting dolled up for the red carpet is always a treat. “I love getting to wear clothes I don’t get to wear every day. I don’t take myself too seriously,” she says. “It’s fun to experiment with different looks and step outside of my comfort zone. My comfort zone is Birkenstocks, so I am literally stepping outside of them.”
At the season 3 premiere of The Bear at L.A.’s El Capitan Theatre on Tuesday, June 25, Elliott, who plays Natalie “Sugar” Berzatto alongside cast members like Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edibiri, Matty Matheson, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, stepped out of her Birkenstocks and instead slipped on a pair of open-toe nude Larroude shoes for the occasion.
Styled by Erica Cloud, Elliott chose a soft pastel pink Tibi dress to celebrate the new season of the beloved show, pairing it with Jennifer Meyer jewels and a Jeffery Levinson clutch. For glam, she turned to hairstylist Barb Thompson and makeup artist Lilly Keys—her dream team—to achieve a SoCal, effortlessly natural-looking glow.
Equal parts elegant and feminine, Elliot's premiere look mirrors the style evolution of her role in The Bear as Natalie. In previous seasons, she dressed like the girl next door, but Elliott says her character is now “more self-assured, more confident," and her fashion reflects that shift.
Ahead of The Bear’s season 3 premiere on Thursday, June 27, Elliott takes InStyle behind the scenes to showcase how she got ready for the red carpet—plus the actress shares what to expect this season.
This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.
Why She Loves Getting Dressed Up
"I love getting to wear clothes I don’t get to wear every day," says Elliot about getting dressed up for big events. "I don’t take myself too seriously. It’s fun to experiment with different looks and step outside of my comfort zone. My comfort zone is Birkenstocks, so I am literally stepping outside of them."
Her Personal Style
"Classic, nostalgic, easy. Birkenstocks."
Her Style Icons
"Goldie Hawn, Gena Rowlands, and Kate Hepburn."
A Must On Her Getting-Ready Playlist

What Fans Can Expect From The Bear Season 3
"More stress! More anxiety! More trauma! One recurring theme this season is legacy."
What She Thinks of Natalie "Sugar" Berzatto's Style
"Natalie's sense of style has really evolved. Young Natalie was very 'Girl Next Door.' She didn’t want to ruffle feathers in her family and played it safe. She experimented with her hair and still wore her brother's old T-shirts," she says. "Her style now is more self-assured, more confident. She is dressing for her changing body and showing up to the Bear in her best. Our hair department, led by Ally Vickers, and our costume department, led by Courtney Wheeler, are fantastic at helping shape these characters and bring them to life."
Fashion Tips She Has Picked Up From Her Castmates
"Everyone is very authentic to themselves. Originality is key."
Which of Her Castmates Has the Coolest Style
"Matty [Matheson]! He has a great vintage collection, and he always looks cool!"
The Celebrity She's Excited to See
"Lionel Boyce! He plays Marcus, and he has a very cool, calm energy. I just love him, and being around him eases my nerves!"
Her After-Party Plans
"There’s a fancy party at the chateau, but I’m up at 6 a.m. with the kiddos, so we will see where the night takes us."
