One of the many reasons we admire Katie Holmes’s timeless street style is because of her commitment to her staple pieces. The actor maintains a capsule wardrobe that’s a fashion lover’s dream. While her wardrobe is undoubtedly filled with designer pieces, she loves to embrace high-low style by mixing in affordable pieces—case in point: Holmes’s most recent street style moment. The Dawson’s Creek star was spotted on a walk in NYC, wearing a breezy $620 Bevza midi dress. As a handbag lover, I zeroed in on her go-to, under-$200 bucket tote bag from Madewell, which we rated as one of our favorite purse brands of 2024. Holmes finished her summery outfit with a pair of fisherman flats, a style certainly set to rule summer 2024—Gwyneth Paltrow was also seen endorsing the divisive trend.
I can’t help but be drawn to Holmes’s affordable Madewell tote because of its versatility. The style seamlessly transitions from a work tote to a travel purse. Holmes also proved that the handbag trend can work any time of year, especially with a sundress for summertime. Suffice to say, I’m convinced that I should be shopping the bucket tote bag trend this summer. In addition to Holmes’s favorite Madewell option, I’ve rounded up five other lookalike bucket tote bags, starting at $40.

Madewell The Essential Bucket Tote
$178 at Madewell.com
Holmes’s favorite tote bag is currently in stock at Madewell, but it’s a best-seller, so you’ll want to shop the style ASAP. While she favors the Chocolate Raisin shade, the tote also comes in eight colors, and you can monogram your bag with up to eight characters. Shoppers seem to agree with Holmes, as the bag has dozens of five-star reviews on the brand's website. One shopper said, “This bag is perfection,” they wrote, adding that it’s “roomy enough for all my things without looking like I am carrying around a suitcase.” Say no more!
Anthropologie The Everyday Bucket Tote
$98 at Anthropologie
Another well-loved bucket tote amongst shoppers is the Anthropologie Everyday Bucket Tote. This under-$100, top-rated option comes in a slate gray color, making it perfect for summertime. The dimensions are slightly smaller than the Madewell option, but it has a removable zip-top pouch for additional storage. One five-star reviewer said the bag is the “perfect everyday purse,” while another shopper said that they love the mini bag that comes inside of it, which they use to “stick [their] millions of lip products” in. Relatable.
Mango Faux Leather Shopper Tote
$80 at Nordstrom
This Mango bucket tote is another ideal on-the-go bag for work or play. One standout feature is its bridge-clip closure, one of my non-negotiables when shopping for a tote bag. There’s also an interior compartment to help you stay organized, because if you’re like me, you know there’s nothing worse than frantically searching through what can seem like a bottomless pit of a tote bag.
