They gave me glowing skin that lasted through the summer heat.
As a beauty editor, I’m fortunate enough that part of my job is to literally test beauty products—something I’d be doing on my own regardless. But recently, I was scrolling through Amazon when I realized I had tried exactly zero of its top-rated skin tints. I went about fixing this immediately, I tried 10 skin tints with the most five-star ratings. Most were not bad, not good, just pretty average. But three really stood out—and prices start at just $8.
The three skin tints below are not listed in any particular order, I tried to name a winner but I actually don’t have a favorite child. See why each made the cut below.
Editor’s Picks of the 3 Best Skin Tints on Amazon
- Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream, $8 (Originally $10)
- Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream, $10
- It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, $47
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
Orig. $10 $8 at Amazon
I have never been a drugstore makeup person. Even before I was a beauty editor, I preferred saving up for one mid-range product from Sephora than buying a couple from CVS. It’s admittedly snooty and resulted in me missing out on some great products. This includes Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream which has 13,000-plus five-star ratings on Amazon alone.
On the makeup end of things, I don’t have any problems with the formula, but I am disappointed by the limited shade range. That being said, this is so lightweight and seamless that it’s easy to forget you have it on. I put it on one half of my face and the difference was impressive—blurred pores, a slight dewiness, and even skin tone. Since it is a BB cream it has other benefits too; hydration, sun protection, and smoothing properties. I haven’t used Dream Fresh BB Cream long enough to comment on these long-term benefits, but at the very least it doesn’t dry out or clog my skin.
Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream
$10 at Amazon
If you are on TikTok, chances are you’ve seen Missha M’s Perfect Cover BB Cream. (Several video reviews of it have 100,000-plus views.) Off the bat, this has the same issue as the Maybelline BB Cream—a very limited shade range. But moving past that, Missha M’s BB Cream has 6,000-plus five-star ratings, and light coverage that can be built up to medium which is pretty rare for this type of product. It’s a primer, skin tint, concealer, and sunscreen all in one.
The formula starts out a little bit thick, so disperse less than you think you need and take your time blending it out. This is an ideal product for people with oily skin (and for sweaty summer makeup in general), it has a matte finish that also controls oil production throughout the day. It’s also quite good at concealing blemishes and neutralizing discoloration.
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream
$47 at Amazon
It Cosmetics’s CC Cream is the most expensive, but has the most inclusive shade range of the bunch. Whereas Maybelline’s BB Cream has four shades and Missha M’s has seven, It Cosmetics’s has 22 and more than 20,000 five-star ratings—the most of the bunch.
It’s a skin tint but it’s also a moisturizer, sunscreen, and (wrinkle-reducing, skin-brightening, tone-evening) serum. This has the fullest coverage of the three products. If you’re looking for something very lightweight, I recommend mixing it with a tiny bit of moisturizer to thin it out. Personally, this is not an issue for me—I like that it mattifies my skin without flattening it, perfects my complexion, seems to eliminate oil altogether, and lasts all day.
