It seems like a new celeb is wearing it every day.
I’ve lost count. I’m not talking about the number of days until my wedding (because that’s officially in its two-week countdown!), or the number of times I’ve already had gelato this season (a reasonable 15 and more to come). What I have lost count of, though, is the sheer number of celebrities I’ve seen in one particular summer 2024 shoe style that just won’t quit. I don’t want it to quit, not only because it’s cool, quirky, and semi-sexy, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen a footwear trend have such a, well, foothold on the entire population.
Let’s rewind: Anne Hathaway, who never fails to serve up a winning outfit that I want to copy in its entirety, was seen out and about in New York City. Specifically, she was seen en route to eat Italian food at buzzy eatery, Via Carota in the West Village (I’ve been, and it’s as great as you’d think). For the dinner outing, she wore a baby blue two-piece set that looked as cute as it appeared comfy. The set, cut from billowy fabric, possibly silk, included a loose-fitting button-down and matching trousers, both covered with a soft, pinstripe print. How chic!
But, the winning piece wasn’t that baby blue outfit, though I now also want a baby blue ‘fit. Instead, it was those fishnet ballet flats that grunged up the outfit in the coolest way.

Hathaway’s black flats actually featured a fishnet-like design (yes, like the tights), which obviously gives them an eye-catching look. The netted textured contrasts against the soft, baby blue two-piece, giving the soft look a hard-edge touch. But, aside from the ballerina’s intriguing design, the footwear style is also pretty practical, given how breathable it is. If you deal with sweaty feet come summertime, the open, air-flow friendly design is certain to become your BFF—trust me. I deal with it, and this shoe has been a total game changer.
Hathaway’s sighting only further cemented netted, squint-to-see shoes as a summer 2024 icon. Jennifer Lawrence, Chrissy Teigen, and Zendaya have all been seen in them, too, and that list is only continuing to grow.
